Van Gogh Color Wall

When the students are done, they are able to color on a color wall.  Our previous one I bought and it was a sea scene.  I decided that an "art" scene would be even more beneficial in our classroom.  So I flipped over the finished sea scene and set to work!  Alas! The Starry Night giant color wall!

stay tuned for the finished wall!

A Bad Case of Stripes

Our First Day of Art We Are Learning to
Be Ourselves and Live Colorfully,
Just like Camilla Cream in
A Bad Case of Stripes
This is a story about Camilla Cream.  She loves lima beans but doesn't want to get made fun of at school so she denies her love for them.  She soon finds out that being herself is much better than being like everyone else!  Our first few weeks in art are based on Camilla!
Here is our door to the art room!
And also my Bad Case of Stripes shoes I made and have been wearing for this week!
I, like Camilla, LOVE lima beans!
Each grade is making self portraits but with one color per grade!  Here are some that the 2nd, 4th, and 5th have been working on.

Once every grade has finished we will make a LIVE COLORFULLY wall display in the elementary halls with every students artwork!  Stay tuned to see that soon!

The New Elementary Art Room at Boyd Buchanan

Here is my favorite school quote!
I decided it was so great it needed its own mural.
Here is ART-OPOLY Board, it is for
the students to keep their behavior in check!

This is Our Magic Light Cloud and
Sea Mural We Will Work on During The School Year!

Here is my first Boyd Buchanan bulletin board!  "Give thanks with a grateful heart," is our verse of the year!  I had teachers send me what they were thankful for and I made their ideas into paper airplanes.   Here is to many more!

My Favorite Picasso Quote! Door Decor!

I doodled this awhile ago in my sketchbook and this summer I thought HEY this would be awesome DOOR DECOR!  So I painted it on butcher paper and Wah-LA!

“Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again. And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work, we must all work, to make the world worthy of its children.”
-Pablo Picasso

Dali's Dreamy Birdies

We studied Dali and his The Elephants painting.  We made our birds and similar to Dali.  Long skinny legs and warm colors for the background.  We also added a cool color bird to make it POP!  I saw this lesson online and fell in love with it!  It is a two day lesson that keeps the students engaged the entire time!

Black History Month Approaching!

February is Black History Month and we are celebrating with Maya Angelou.  The students learned about Maya and all she had accomplished in her life.  We focused on "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."  We drew cages on music note paper (hence the "sings") and then added an oil pasteled bird.  The students were able to choose their bird and finish by mounting their cages to a black sheet of paper.  A student teacher with Mrs. Staehling found this lesson on the internet and I tweaked it a bit! Love how they turned out!

Chuck Close, Math in the Art Room

Our fourth grade students made these AWESOME Chuck Close artworks.  First, we took their picture and printed it out, then they traced their face with a sharpie, then they used rulers to grid and add symbols.  The students colored their hair, face, background, and clothing two different colors.  We had a blast doing these and they look so GOOD! Love incorporating math and art! Especially since I am marrying a math teacher!!
